3 ways to survive in regulatory services

Hello!

Some time ago a fellow EHO and I were talking about the way we were carrying on relentlessly with same inspection routine year after year. Not only was it uninspiring but it wasn't really that successful at improving overall compliance. But, in order to be able to break away from the ordinary, we knew we would need to back up our plans with evidence (afterall, if you don't know the situation then your opinion is worthless). That's what led to us developing our regulatory services inspection and benchmarking tools.

Now, in the year after designing our tools, public service cuts have started to bite and regulatory services are changing rapidly. We were chatting yesterday and agreed that it has never been more important for regulatory services to re-examine plans and consider different approaches.

So here are 3 of our top tips for service leaders:

BE A GOAL DIGGER
At the moment it may seem like EH is broken. Its not - that's just how the light gets in. So don't sink into redundancy - now is the time to take control and embrace the new.

PIMP YOUR SERVICE PLAN
Be positive and do different - that's leadership. Carrying out and implementing a well thought out plan will set you apart from the 'cut and pasters'. Just make sure its intelligence-led.

GET MORE DONE & HAVE MORE FUN
Its not the load that weighs you down, it's the way you carry it. Having said that, there are plenty of ways to lighten the load and achieve more. Modern tech can have a significant impact.
