A Second Successful Quarter!

In April of this year I posted a quick recap of the amazing first three months of this grassroots collaborative, which wildly outran my modest hopes. I started this project in December 2017 hoping that I could put my self-care crafting work to greater use raising money for social justice organizations. In our first three months we raised $870.00, nearly 75% of my initial goal for the entire year. The second three months has humbled me once again as more crafters have signed on to be Persistent Stitchers and our total funds raised nearly doubled! In response to this enthusiasm, I have raised our goal for 2018 a second time, from $2,000.00 to $3,000.00 for the calendar year. We can meet that goal -- possibly even exceed it! -- with your help, and the help of all of your friends -- spread the word!

Here is Persistent Stitches, for the first six months of its existence, by the numbers:
  • Total funds raised: $1,685.00
    • Funds raised in Q1: $870.00
    • Funds raised in Q2: $815.00
  • Number of organizations supperted: 33 [for a complete list see this post]
  • Number of Persistent Stitchers: 6
  • Number of donors: 45
  • Number of items shipped: 66
  • States to which P.S. items have been shipped: 16 + UK
  • Amount pledged for future 2018 commissions: $750.00
Donor Spotlight

Persistent Stitches donor Dara, who received one of CrowGirl's Most Softest Scarves for her contribution to March for Our Lives, was kind enough to send us photographs of the scarf with its new owner! She says she looks forward to wearing it when the cooler temperatures of autumn arrive.Image: The Most Softest Scarf, knit in variegated wool of yellow, purple, and brown draped across Dara's chest. If you have pictures of your Persistent Stitches item, we'd love to showcase a photo or two in a future issue of P.S. News! They don't have to feature you (if you are camera shy) and we will defer to your preference in terms of a credit line. Thanks bunches!

Meet an Organization!
One of my favorite things about the Persistent Stitches project has been finding local and issue-specific organizations to support that do not, under normal circumstances, get much notice at the national or international level. One of the things I have tried to do is to match my crafting thematically with grassroots organizations working to effect social justice change in their own communities. One of the last pieces to be claimed this quarter was an improv cross stitch piece that I put up to be claimed by a donor who gave to the Flint Rising Coalition, "a coalition of community organizations and allies working to ensure that directly impacted people are building the organizing infrastructure and leadership necessary for this long-haul fight for justice and creating the future that Flint families need and deserve."

Do you have a local organization you'd like to raise funds for? Consider crafting something and posting it to Persistent Stitches to be claimed in exchange for a donation! Or let us know what this organization does, and why you are passionate about them, and we can add them to our list of potential organizations to raise funds for with future crafting projects.

Pink Pussy Pattern

This pattern is an easy-to-make 4" x 6" cross stitch on 14 ct Aida cloth. I've done these in a few color combinations.

Download (free) from Stitch Fiddle.

If you don't know how to cross stitch but want to give it a whirl here's a 101 tutorial.

Sneak Preview!

On the 4th of July, I plan to cut the pieces for the Arlington St. Church auction quilt for 2018! I'm in love with the fabrics the purchaser chose, and look forward to seeing the quilt take shape.

Thank you all for supporting this project! We welcome your signal boosting as we move into the second half of this second year of an extremely difficult U.S. presidency. Resist and persist.
