May 2021

Hi family, friends, and fellow travelers,

My parents arrived in Roslindale this weekend for a three-week stay with us. It's the first time we've visited with them (and, really, anyone outside our household!) since October 2019 and we held off post-cancer diagnosis until all four of us were fully vaccinated -- so it's a bit celebratory to have them here, despite the circumstances. Our landlady offered them the use of her attic room with its own bathroom for their stay which was a lovely gift and has made the logistics and health safety of the visit so much easier than it could have been.

As we settle into enjoying "Schitt's Creek" together (may I recommend this 237k+ word fic from Patrick's POV?), getting through the next two cycles of chemotherapy (read my last medical update here), and enjoying the unfolding spring here in New England, I'm taking a month off from substantive newsletter writing. Here are some recent photos from my Instagram feed. I'll be back in June!

Image: Romance author Cat Sebastian sent me a gift! An advance review copy of her latest book, The Queer Principles of Kit Webb which is a delightful 18th c. coffee shop romance beween a retired highwayman and an aristocrat in precarious circumstances (highly recommend) and also a paperback copy of her novella Tommy Cabot Was Here which is a 1950s m/m romance set in Massachusetts which I adore adore adore.

Image: People have been feeding us so well. This was a greek salad and pita spread delivered to us last week by one of my colleagues. I am so thankful for everyone's kindnesses.

Image: Our little Christopher doesn't do laps, but decided to give mine a try this weekend without any warning! Just marched over and plopped down on my knitting. He's been doing well since his last course of antibiotics and has a dental appointment in early June to hopefully address some of his underlying medical issues.

Image: It takes a bit of prep to get my port accessed ahead of a chemotherapy infusion day but is so, so worth it for the ease of infusions. My tiny arm veins are very happy not to be abused on a regular basis.

Image: My red/"pink armadillo" colorwork shawl progresses! Loving how the pink-to-charcoal fade is coming out in the pattern as it emerges.

Enjoy your upcoming Memorial Day weekend; remember the dead and mourn the violence of war while remembering that patriotism is an actively violent paradigm. Let's put humans and our global ecosystem before the toxicity of the nation-state.

In gratitude for your presence in the world and in our lives,
Anna
