September 2018

Dear friends, family, comrades,

The month got away from me (how is tomorrow October 1st?) and I've started this newsletter several times since September 15th only to run out of steam several paragraphs in. So here's the month in a series of fives-plus-ones.

Five Things I Did (+ One Thing I Didn't Do)
  • Voted for Ayanna Pressley in the primary elections (September 4th) - She won!
  • Celebrated our 6th wedding anniversary (September 14th). Definitely still glad to be married.
  • Traveled to my hometown of Holland, Michigan for the first time in five years. It still exists.
  • Began writing Postcards to Voters - 55 written so far, for campaigns in Texas and Tennessee.
  • A colleague and I submitted a chapter proposal to this anthology on sexuality in libraries, which was rejected (though with encouragement to shop the idea elsewhere). The anthology still looks amazing though! I can't wait to read it.
Five Books I Read (+ One Movie I Watched)
Five Articles I Read (+ One I Wrote)
Five Cat Photos (+ One Dog Photo)

Image: The cats co-sharing the living room couch (why would humans ever want it?!).

Five Things I'm Looking Forward To in October (+ One Thing I'm Not)
  • Hosting our friend Electra who's stopping en route to a Hannibal con next week.
  • Visiting with my brother and sister in Austin, Texas (and getting to meet Radio!).
  • Reading Band Sinister by K. J. Charles (out October 11th!)
  • Finishing my Arlington St. Auction quilt, which is turning out rather well!
  • Watching new seasons of The Good Place and Stranger Things.
  • One more freakin' month of this political nightmare of a Republican-led government.
Mood:
Image: An illustration of Little My from Tove Jansson's Moomintroll books. TEXT: "When yo're angry, then you're angry," thought Little My, peeling her potato with her teeth. "Sometimes you have to be angry. Every little creature has a right to be angry."

Be angry, be rightous, be hopeful, be persistent.

In solidarity,
Anna
